A New Dawn Beckons for Kiambu Residents

The Cabinet Secretary Ministry Of Water &Sanitation and Irrigation Hon. Sicily Kariuki today inspected ongoing Kiambu – Ruaka Water Supply project accompanied by Chairman Hon John Kiragu Chege, CEO Eng. Michael M. Thuita and Ag. MD Nairobi Water Company Eng. Nahashon Muguna.

The project is set to drastically impact water and sanitation for Kiambu, Ruaka, Thindigua and its environs who do not have viable options. The area has encountered massive demographical changes that has not been in tandem with water and sanitation works.

Athi Water Works Development Agency is constructing 108 kms of sewer network, laying 30 km water supply pipeline, expanding the existing Kiambu Waste Water Treatment Plant, drilling 6 boreholes and building 4 sanitation blocks to serve the residents of Kiambu, Ruaka, Thindigua towns and its environs.

The project is 20% complete and set to benefit more than 40,000 residents of Ruaka and 60,000 residents of Kiambu town with improved access to water and waste water management services. The residents can also look forward to having the best quality water through the registration of small – scale water service providers which will ensure consumers getting borehole water are ascertained of the portability through regular quality checks.
